Bridge Etc

Dinner on Monday evening was excellent - Carpenter's Arms hotel. I learned a new concept called gastro-pubs. With the smoking ban many pubs have moved towards restaurants which have become known as gastro-pubs. Steamed langoustines with fries was quite remarkable. The company of Espen and his sponsor Nick was also most enjoyable as we discussed bridge and sports.

Tuesday - more shitty weather but the good news was bridge which is an indoor pursuit not requiring was on the agenda. Went for breakfast to Espen's health club and then went to Piccadilly Circus for a lengthy walk - again didnt buy anything - I am so proud of myself.
Went to Robson's club which seems very similar to Grand Slam in standard and what it offers. Twenty one boards in 3 hours - y-a-w-n. Playing with Helen's niece Alice was a joy. She is 21, attractive and plays an excellent game of bridge. We scored 69% although I personally could have added 12% more to this.

Not to bore the non-bridge players but here is one cute hand - where I didn't star although the score did.

North opened 1D sitting South I responded 1H and partner rebid 2NT. Now my grand plan swung into action. I bid 4S Exclusion Blackwood - which we had in fact discussed. Alice looked confused and bid 4NT to which I responded 6C - choice of contract. Partner looking even more confused proudly bid 7S to which I bid 7NT - leftie doubled for a heart lead but this was clearly misunderstood by his partner who led the only card to give us a chance - a low spade. Partner won the 10 and in the flurry West discarded his diamond to hang on to the HA - Making 7.
