The Not so Sunny London

Arrived in London on time - a rarity these days. Immigration and luggage all OK and with Rachel and the kids took the Heathrow Express to Paddington and a taxi to Hammersmith/Chiswick where I was greeted with enthusiasm by Helen and Espen and the kids.

We went round the corner for a quick Italian meal and as Helen and Espen were playing in an IMPS pairs session at Young Chelsea Club and I wasnt that keen for an early night I went and watched 6 boards before heading back and unpacking and turning in for the night.

Slept well waking up to a quick breakfast and trip with Espen and the girls to an indoor play centre called Snakes and Ladders which was heaps of fun watching the girls climbing, playing and enjoying themselves.

Back to Helen's mother for a traditional roast lamb lunch and some good conversation and company.

I then went for an hour's walk up Old Chiswick Road to get my glasses fixed but probably more to find the two foods of the G-ds - cherries and raspberries which I found to my delight - as well as getting my glasses fixed I should add.

Back home where I am writing this with a late dinner planned after I have a Saturday afternoon shloof.

For our bridge players, you pick up:

♠ —
A Q J 10 9 8 4 3
6
♣ A Q J 10

Do you open 1H or a game force. Helen opted for my choice of 1H but Espen is adamant that this is a game force followed by 4H bid. Anyway back to the real world. IT then went 1S by lefties, pass by partner, 2D by RHO and Helen obviously bid 4H to describe her hand. 4S on her left pass pass back to Helen who bid 5H> I think a 5C bid here describes the hand better as partner could have K-x-x-x-x in clubs and a singleton heart and now 6C is cold. Anyway they doubled Helen who made in comfort when partner held:

♠ 10 9 8 5
6 5
A 7 4 3
♣ 7 5 4

Oh yes back to the title. The weather is worse in London (summer) than it was in Sydney (winter) when I left - 20 degrees, variable, windy, occasional sun and lots of grey overcast.

Anyway enough for now.
Love to all
David
